AAAHS SUMMER VISITS: 2006
EVENING OUTING TO WALLINGFORD 5th October
Meeting time is 5.45pm Wallingford with start time at 6pm at the castle gate, led by Judy Dewey, museum curator.
Parking is suggested as in Waitrose car park, opposite the museum. Castle grounds involve a climb to the top of the motte and bailey - I was slightly out of breath at 68 yrs age!
Afterwards, we assemble in the museum where Mrs Dewey will talk about the Wallingford Charter, granted by Henry II, post the Stephen/Matilda civil war. Museum charge is £4 and includes tea and biscuits.
I think this is going to be quite an eye-opener, if my assessment of the castle site is any good, and have attached two images, one for directions, the other the castle plan.
Any more information needed, just ask.
